Digg, and SEO Spam

According to the post Why Socially Driven Sites Hate SEOs, grey-hat SEO efforts mess with communities like Digg, and they’re generally despised.

I’ve always found SEO to be a bit shady. If you have a nicely designed website, with good content, designed to appeal to people, then the search engines will come. Setting up the website so it can interact with the search engines properly (meta tags, robots.txt, etc), and advertise what it’s about (proper titles) are just good practices.

A second part of this exercise is to reach out into the internet and promote your blog with links and comments. Trying to ‘game’ the system, or use black-hat SEO practices will just make people angry.
