Digg, Dupes and Marketing
I read Digg everyday, and duplicate stories bother me as much as the next guy, but I think it represents a great facet of Digg… it is a meme market, and there is fierce competition!
How do you improve your Digg marketing campaign? Make the title and description captivating! Check your spelling, and add your opinion. The more value you add to the post, the more you will be rewarded.
Everytime somone submits a story to Digg, the title and description are there to sell the meme. Duplicate stories represent the competition. If your title and description are good, people will digg your story. Don’t forget to contribute to the discussion, too. The submission is your baby, take care of it.
As for the dupes, here is my solution: Users should be able to mark a Digg as a duplicate of another Digg. Eventually all these entries of the same thing will bunch up together. Maybe they even share the same digg count. When viewing an entry with duplicates, users can see a list of the duplicates, and then digg the one with the “best” description. Not only will this cut down on duplicates, but it will foster competition between the entries, and make sure the better one wins.
