Your company might be reading your email…

From U.S. corporations massively read employee e-mail:

In its fifth-annual study of outbound e-mail and data loss prevention issues, Proofpoint found that large enterprises continue to incur risk from - and take action against - information leaks over outbound e-mail, as well as newer communications media such as blogs, message boards, media sharing sites and mobile devices.

Your company might be snooping through the email you send at work. So what do you do?

Step 1) Stop using your work email for personal business! Its their system, you’re representing the company when you send an email. It is very easy to get a much better personal email solution anyways.

Step 2) Stop using your internet service email address! You can use it for your personal mail address, but what happens if you change internet service providers? You will need to notify everyone of your new address.

Step 3) Sign up for an online mail provider! I recommend Google Mail. You can check it from anywhere, you get lots of space, and it will provide you with an email address that represents you. You can even visit it securely (here) if you think people are snooping.

Bonus! If you are feeling ambitious, you can get a domain name of your very own and use that as your email address! Just find a domain name you like, hook it up to a hosting provider and away you go. This will cost a little bit a month, but this is your online presence and brand we’re talking about.
